The Chance
This coming May, VW Australia are giving you and a mate the chance to run the hard-working Amarok through a gut-wrenching challenge that will test both man and machine.
The Spirit of Amarok (previously known as Mud, Sweat & Gears) is a professionally designed, all-terrain, all-skills, money-can’t-buy experience for those who are ready to show us what they have got…
… and here’s the best part: The top team on each day will represent Australia at the international finals of the Spirit of Amarok in South Africa.
The Challenge
A mud-sliding, sweat-breaking, gear-shifting series of speed tests, 4WD terrain and technical challenges. You and your nominated partner will get behind the wheel of the Amarok and test yourselves in a series of 4WD activities – with the winner from each group winning the ultimate prize.
The Experts:
Pat Callinan – ‘MR4X4’
Pat is Australia’s leading authority on all things Aussie 4X4, and for a second year running Volkswagen is proud to partner with the 4X4 guru. Having competed in last year’s Spirit of Africa finals, Pat will be on hand to pass on tips and techniques for the make or break challenges. This year Pat has worked with the Spirit of Africa founder Sarel Daniel van der Merwe to design the most challenging of 4X4 events.
Sarel Daniel van der Merwe – ‘SuperVan’
A household name in South Africa ‘SuperVan’, as he is known, has won just about every motor racing and rally title on the African continent. Over 10 years ago, SuperVan created The Spirit of Africa Trophy with a view to providing the ‘average’ driver with an opportunity to test their off-road driving ability in a competitive environment. In 2016, SuperVan has helped Pat Callinan design the Australian course – ensuring the most challenging, gut-wrenching and adrenalising Aussie leg of the Spirit of Amarok.
The Ultimate Prize:
If your team has got what it takes to take out the day at Spirit of Amarok, you’ll WIN an all-expenses trip to South Africa to represent Australia against the best in the world in the elimination finals of The Spirit of Africa – The Ultimate Test Drive.
Run over five days, and designed by South African off-road rally legend Sarel van der Merwe, The Spirit of Africa is a thrill-packed challenge of competitive off-roading against the best teams from the African and South American elimination rounds. To top it all off, camping under the stars will add to this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
