The Jeep Wrangler is a polarising vehicle; you either love it or hate it. And while you can’t deny it looks the part, and is one of the most capable and modifiable off-roaders on the market today, did you ever expect Jeep to make a dual-cab ute that (on paper) could be one of the most practical four-wheel drive utes since the Defender 130? A proper wheelbase, good-sized tray and solid axles front and rear are just the beginning. The new JL Wrangler is set for release later this year, and rumour has it Australia will see a Wrangler ute (or pick-up) in 2018. Toyota is the only manufacturer still building a commercial dual-cab ute with solid axles at both ends – and while it is a strong vehicle it certainly isn’t without its flaws. So the big question: Would a dual-cab Wrangler be a better buy than a Toyota dual-cab?
