Along with its hotly anticipated Wrangler-based ute, Jeep has announced that the old Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer names will be returning to the line-up.
These new models will both sit above the current flagship Grand Cherokee – in terms of both price and size.
If that’s the case, the Wagoneer will be squaring up against the likes of Toyota’s 200 Series LandCruiser, Land Rover’s Discovery and Nissan’s Y62 Patrol. There are rumours that the Grand Wagoneer will be a full-on luxury model – taking on the Range Rover and the Lexus LX series in the six-figures-plus price bracket.
This is an important step for Jeep at the moment. Wrangler and Grand Cherokee sales have been tanking pretty badly (in 2016) and they are in need of some positive PR and products to help turn things around. We won’t be expecting anything straight away… 2020 is the rough date listed for the Wagoneers to turn up.
