The Y62 Patrol may have had a soft start in Australia. It’s not surprising, the legacy of the GU and GQ Patrol leaving absolute monstrous-sized boots to fill. But the Y62 is slowly clawing its way back as a serious contender. Today’s announcement from Nissan Australia is sure to make it a giant leap. We’re officially getting a Patrol Warrior through Premcar.
If you’re not familiar with Premcar, they’re an Aussie company that’s earned themselves a reputation for partnering with manufacturers to build factory offered upgrade packages. The Navara PRO-4X Warrior has been one of the most popular models offered. They feature 40mm increased ground clearance, 30mm increased track, unique wheels, mud tyres, bar work, fender flares and underbody protection. Premcar has already produced over 3,5000 of the unique Navara Warrior. Now the’re turning their attention to the Y62 Patrol.
The development program is expected to take up to 12 months before production can commence in Premcar’s Epping facility, but they have given us a few sneak peeks on what we can expect. You can count on an increase in ground clearance. A wider stance. Improved ride. Chunky Cooper Discoverer tyres on unique rims. And a trick side exit exhaust that’s sure to make the Patrol Warrior sound as good as it looks.
The Warrior package across the Navara range adds around $10,000 to the driveaway price. With the top-spec Patrol Ti-L already coming in with a $103,202 driveaway price, it’s a safe net the Patrol Warrior will be close to $120,000 by the time it hits the road. Is it enough to have the Patrol be a serious LandCruiser competitor again? We’re not sure, but 292kW of 5.6L V8 sure is a convincing argument.
Still petrol though?
