Toyota HiLux is the best-selling vehicle, overall, in Australia. Beating out the Toyota Corolla (40,330) and Hyundai i30 (37,772), the humble ’Yota ute managed to sell a total of 42,104 units. Of those, 31,076 were 4X4s. Ford’s Ranger had a stellar year as well – moving up in the ranks to fourth place (36,934). 4X4 models accounted for 30,880 of those, showing how vastly popular dual-cab utes are in Australia.

In fact, the 4X4 ute segment grew 9.6% over the last year, up to a whopping 146,820 of total units. When you add in the SUV segment growth, 4WD sales are growing rapidly. Toyota’s LandCruiser sales shot up 28% to 11,813 and Nissan’s Patrol has enjoyed moderate growth to just over 2,000 units. Jeep’s Grand Cherokee sales have plummeted – down almost 40% to 6,379.
