It has been on the cards for a while now, but Volkswagen has now officially confirmed it: 2018 V6 Amaroks will have their towing capacity increased from 3,000kg to 3,500kg. That means your bigger boats, caravans and project cars are all now within reach; and the Amarok is competitive with the Ranger, Colorado and other 3.5-tonne towing utes.
The GCM isn’t changed, so you’ll have to be wary of loading up a full ute and towing 3.5 tonnes at the same time. This is the same as every other ute however, and it’s something you just have to cater for. Volkswagen has also made some engineering tweaks to the vehicle, as well as designing a new towbar for the extra load.
