Justin Macukat (aka Mad Raptr) took us along for a fishing trip at Stuart Island. With a Fish Finder in tow and squid and prawn as bait, he wrestled in Brownspotted wrasse, Six-spined leatherjacket, plus more. Of course, his Blue Merle Australian Shepherd Milo was along for the ride too.

Filleting a catch after fishing

He pulls up on the sand and heads back to the van he takes us through how he fillets his catches to ensure they’re ready to cook up for a feed. It would’ve been a good day to have been in the area for lunch!

Most importantly, he explains what safety gear he packs to take along on his fishing trips. This includes a bunch of spares from extra rope to spare anchors, as well as his GME Locator Beacon, which is important to have on you if you ever find yourself in trouble. He also carries life jackets as well as boat flares, and always checks their use by date before chucking them into his bag.

Check out his tips and tricks for fishing, safety tips and advice on how to fillet a fish in the video.
