Flat batteries are a fact of life. And when you’re at the Unsealed 4X4 office, there’s always at least one 4WD floating around with a dodgy battery. All of our 4WDs have pretty hard lives, and the batteries are flat out kicking over diesel motors and running all sorts of accessories. And sometimes, they sit around while we feverishly bang out all these overdue stories…

 

Anyway, we had couple of these Cygnett jump starters laying around – and we also had some dead 4WDs that needed moving. The perfect situation for some proper road testing. Check out the videos to see how they went.

The mighty VDJ 4.5-litre V8 diesel is well beyond the listed capability of the Cygnett jump starter, which is up to 5.0 litres for petrol or 2.5 litres for diesel.

The second jump starter here is also a Cygnett unit, which is listed for up to 3.0 litres for petrol or 1.7 litres for diesel. They don’t recommend to double up either.
