DIY CAMP SHOWER FOR AROUND $20

By Evan Spence 2 Min Read

After a hot day crossing deserts or camping at the beach, nothing goes down better after a coldie than a nice hot shower. The problem, especially in remote areas is the need to be a water miser so how do we solve the problem?

The solution was already sitting in the truck in the form of a 7L Garden Spray we carry in case of spinifex fires around the exhaust pipe on desert trips.

We purchased a $9.95 shower head from Bunnings, an adaptor and shut off valve and a longer plastic hose from the local pneumatics joint and for 20 bucks the shopping was done.

Assembly is easier than ordering a big Mac. Some thread tape on the shower head, shut off valve and adaptor, assemble it, replace the short standard line with the longer plastic for ease of use and you are ready to go.

We fill it with about 5 liters, add some hot, pump up the pressure and one sensational shower is to be had. The real beauty is that with care, you can have a really good shower with 2 liters of water.

One trick is to reduce the number of holes in the shower head to increase the pressure without increasing the water usage.

Some silicon sealant did the trick a little messily but very effectively. What I really like about this is that by screwing the wand back on, I am ready to put out fires again. Nothing like one item doing two jobs.
