Outgrowing its previous Sydney branch in Seven Hills, Don Kyatt Spare Parts have moved into a new, state-of-the-art facility. Where? You’ll find it in Marsden Park, in the city’s North West. With more space and a new outback-themed building, they will continue to service customers of both their Terrain Tamer 4WD and Flashlube brands.

After over three decades at their old branch, planning works began for the new facility in 2020. Although it took a little longer than expected due to supply issues and building permits, it was worth the wait. The new premises was finally delivered in May 2022.

The new facility pays homage to Terrain Tamer’s roots

Built on a large 4500m2 site, the new building covers an area of just over 1900m2. Bottle trees and timber totems add to the outback theme, as does the red stone “corroboree” area. This is the building’s main entrance and is a striking facade featuring an aboriginal painting from Kurun Warun. Warun is also a long-term Terrain Tamer customer.

The painting was digitised and then laser cut onto a steel sunscreen that spans the width of the building. It pays homage to the roots of the Terrain Tamer brand, assisting the likes of Bill King, who ran outback tours in the 1970s. Titled “Dry Water”, it depicts two men travelling on the same journey and assisting each other when things get broken. It also represents Terrain Tamer’s various locations as billabongs, across the outback and beyond. The painting is a reminder that customers are never far away from the company’s network and support regardless of where they’re travelling.

“The Aboriginal input into the screen and the inspiration for the landscaping gives the building an element of soul and timelessness which is very hard to do with a modern building,” says Adam Wright of Building Principals who Project Managed the build.

“It has turned what could have otherwise been just another building into a truly meaningful connection to what the brand represents.”

Don Kyatt Spare Parts General Manager Brent Hutchinson agrees. “Having Tio (Kurun Warun) paint our story for us is one thing, but to be able to present it across a 40-metre building has really brought the culture of the company into light. Terrain Tamer is more than just moving boxes, and our connection with our customers is achieved with a great amount of passion,” he said.
