Bushranger gives its synthetic winch rope a second layer

Bushranger’s double braid winch rope adds a protective outer sheath, with versions for 10,000lb and 12,000lb Bushranger winches.

Winch rope cops a hiding. It gets dragged through dirt and over rocks, wound back onto the drum gritty and has to do the lion’s share of the work. Bushranger’s new double braid synthetic winch rope puts a braided outer sheath around the core to give it some extra protection from that sort of wear.

What’s the go with double braid?

The inner core does the pulling. It’s made from 12 strands of UHMWPE, a type of polyethylene fibre, and Bushranger pre-stretches and heat-sets it during manufacture. Around that sits a second braid made from the same material. Bushranger says the outer sheath helps keep grit away from the core and shields it from abrasion and UV exposure. There’s also a reinforced eye at the hook end.

If you’ve ever tried to pick out a dark winch line by torchlight, the reflective versions are worth a look. The tracer runs the full length of the rope on the yellow camo and black reflective options. The army green camo version goes without it.

Fitment and price

The army green camo rope (RWUA010) is 24m long and 12mm across, with an 11mm core. It’s designed to suit Bushranger’s 12,000lb winches, including the REVO and COVERT. There’s a separate version for the brand’s 10,000lb winches, so check which model you’ve got before ordering.

Bushranger lists both versions at $300 including GST. If your old line is due for replacement, that puts the double braid option $60 above Bushranger’s standard $240 synthetic replacement rope for the 12,000lb REVO MKII.
