Hot or Not? This super rare Shorty GU is up for grabs for an eye-watering $50,000. Not a bad bit of kit for those with deep pockets…

For those who have ever owned a short-wheel based four-wheel drive, shorties take hold and end up carving out a special place in your heart. If you’re anything like me and have owned a Datsun GQ Shorty, you always looked up to the GU Shorty as the nicer, younger sibling that you always wanted, but knew you had no chance with because so few were ever brought into Australia.

If you’ve got deep pockets ($50,000 deep), and want to fulfil your deepest darkest four-wheel drive desires, there’s one up for grabs on eBay right now (you’ll find the link here). The beast in question is located down in Victoria, is a 2003 model, and features the big, angry TB48 petrol-powered injected six-cylinder. It comes in the factory black on silver two-tone, with a five-speed Tiptronic auto, with heated leather seats and a sunroof – lah de-dah.

Tell me that’s not screaming for a turbo bigger than your head?!

Aftermarket accessories include an LRA long-range tank, 2-inch lift with Koni shocks, ARB Sahara bar, GME UHF for comms, and diff gears changed out to 4.1:1. It’s got an ARB compressor in the rear, with 34-inch Nitto tyres wrapped around 17-inch Method Wheels, and honestly, looks pretty tidy from what we can see. It’s being sold with Victorian Rego still on it and comes with an engineers certificate and road-worthy certificate too.

Let us know what you think; is this GU Shorty worth $50,000? Or is it just a pipe-dream that’ll get snapped up by some city-hipster and never driven off-road?
