A winch can be a handy tool if you’re stuck on the beach, provided you have something to winch off of — which isn’t always easy to find. So winching in the sand is more about having a proper winching point.
Several companies offer dedicated ground anchors, but there’s also the option of digging a massive hole and burying your spare tyre and using it as an anchor to winch yourself out. Be warned, these devices are to be used by those with specific training in their safe operation.
