Kia’s long-awaited Dual-Cab Ute, the Kia Tasman, finally has a price tag, and it’s shaping up to be a serious contender in the Aussie ute wars. Pre-orders are now open.
Kicking things off at $42,990 for the base S 4×2, the range tops out at $74,990 for the off-road-ready X-Pro 4×4. The flagship X-Pro variant has the most off-road chops of the lot, including electric diff lockers, the usual terrain modes, underbody protection, and an off-road page.
Kia Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Damien Meredith summed it up:
“The Tasman is by far Kia Australia’s most anticipated model yet, reflecting the scale of Australia’s ute market and the passion of these owners.”
“We are confident the input from Kia Australia at each stage of its development, along with its competitive value and versatility, will make it a very strong contender in the local market.”
The Dual Cab Chassis will follow around a month after launch, and a Single Cab Chassis version will land later in 2025. Pricing for those Kia Tasman body styles is still under wraps.
The Tasman is built on an all-new ladder chassis and comes in S, SX, SX+, X-Line, and X-Pro trims across 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains.
It runs a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel putting out 154kW and 440Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic. That’s good for a 3,500kg braked towing capacity and a GCM of 6,200kg, plus a standard Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (ITBC) and Trailer Sway Control. Towing mode and trailer calibration features come standard, too.
Every variant (excluding novated lease-specific builds) has a payload rating over 1,000kg, with the top-spec X-Pro still carrying 1,013kg. The base S 4×2 Single Cab Chassis offers a max of 1,124kg.
The Dual Cab Pick-Up’s tub can swallow an Aussie pallet, boasting a 1,173L capacity and generous dimensions: 1,512mm long, 1,572mm wide, 540mm deep. There’s also 45L of under-seat storage in the back seat, even in the fancy models with sliding and reclining rear seats (a segment-first).
Every Tasman gets a panoramic triple-screen dash setup:
Also standard: dual-zone climate control, Smart Cruise Control, LED lighting, and Kia Connect with OTA updates.
Up top, the X-Line and X-Pro add even more clever features, including:

It looks like Kia isn’t mucking around with the Tasman. They seem to have taken the ute market seriously and packed it with a blend of grunt, gear, and good ideas. The real test will be how it handles the rough stuff, how it goes from weekday to weekend, and whether it can take the heat from the likes of HiLux, Ranger, and D-Max. We’ll let you know soon enough.
