Some pricing details on the new Mercedes X-Class ute have been leaked, via a dealer quoting prices to a punter.

This story comes via motoring.com.au, who hasn’t named its sources; but the prospective buyer had put down a deposit on an X350d some time ago and was called up by the dealer with some pricing details.

Before we talk turkey, a quick lesson on the X-Class: There is going to be three different spec levels – Pure, Progressive and Power.

Pure is the lowliest form, while Power gives you the all of the specs. There’s a choice of engines as well: The 250d uses Nissan’s 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine and 7-speed auto, while the 350d will use a Mercedes 3.0-litre V6 diesel and 7-speed auto.

According to the leak, the Mercedes X350d will cost $78,990, before on-road costs and other options. This pings it squarely at the $77,000 Amarok Ultimate, which might be outgunned in power for the first time when the X-Class lands.

The X250d, with the same trim level, goes for $68,990 – giving the superior engine a $10,000 premium over the Nissan four-banger. It’s worth noting that the 350d will also have full-time 4WD, versus the traditional 2WD/4WD setup on the 250d.
