NEW KID ON THE BLOCK… SORT OF

By Evan Spence 3 Min Read

So by now you would have probably noticed (by the increase in spelling mistakes) that Dex has moved on from steering the good ship Unsealed 4X4. I’m sure you’re wondering who this new bozo is writing this editorial, too? Well this new bozo is I, Evan Spence. I’ve been writing for 4WD magazines for 15 years now.

I’ve been with Unsealed 4X4 full-time for three years and counting; initially starting as a Journalist, moving up to Deputy Editor and now Editor. If you have read a product comparison or review, chances are I did it. If you have watched a video in Adventure Cinema, I probably sourced it. If you have clicked on the Gear News section… you guessed it. If there was a huge error, that was Dex.

I’m not just a web wheeler though, owning (at a guess) 16 4WDs in as many years. Most have been complete junk, but all had soul and most were built entirely by myself. Poorly. I’m the guy staring out the window on drives through the country, trying to spot an old ’Cruiser decaying in a paddock. I’d save them all if I could.

Currently I own a GQ Patrol with over 500,000kms on it and a Suzuki Sierra I’ve been spending money on over the last two years. So expect to see more on them in upcoming issues of Unsealed 4X4. Unless I sell them both before then –something my mates know I do all too often.

I’m sick of talking about myself; the reality is I want to hear more from you. This is your magazine at the end of the day, so feel free to send me an email or a message through Facebook. I’m looking forward to steering this fine publication in the right direction. I’d also like to thank Dex for all his efforts over the years. It has been a joy sitting next to him asking if his 40 Series is done yet. What about now? Now?

Cheers

Ev
