Hitting the tracks safely should always be at the forefront, whether it’s carrying enough water (thank you Mr Coight), or using safe and reliable equipment, particularly recovery gear. When recovering any 4X4, the gear you use is put under immense strain and risk of breaking, potentially injuring your vehicle or yourself. Not ideal! Thankfully, ARB has taken the next step in safety with their Soft Shackle. They may look like a piece of winch rope tied in a loop, but it is safe to say a whole lot of clever engineering goes into these products. The benefit of soft shackles is they greatly minimise risks involved in a recovery, as they weigh next to nothing. For something so light, it’s refreshing to see they have been rated to 14.5 tonnes, and are designed for use on any 4WD weighing up to 3.5 tonnes. Furthermore, they also float in water (and presumably mud) and are UV resistant so they won’t deteriorate over years of use.
