Black Duck has long been known as a quality manufacturer of canvas seat covers.
Wanting to try something different, the latest release from Black Duck is its range of denim seat covers, which they claim offer a bit more comfort and style over the traditional canvas range. The denim covers offer 100 per cent protection from dust and dirt, are water resistant and also airbag compatible.
The additional comfort comes from a layer of high-density foam and a soft polyester backing to prevent wear on the seats. With over 3000 models available there should be no issue getting a set fitted to your four-wheel driver, old or new. We recently installed a set on our Landcruiser Troopcarrier project, read on below to see our initial thoughts.

Black Duck carries a wide range of high-quality canvas seat covers for most makes and models of four-wheel drives — they even cater to most aftermarket seats, so it was a natural fit to give them a call when I needed to cover up my tired and work Paradrive seats.
My first impression was that they really do use a quality canvas for their covers. I’m not a big fan of synthetic covers, so I’m quite happy with my choice. They appear to be well-made and look like they’ll last the long haul.
My Paradrive seats aren’t the easiest shape in the world to make a canvas cover fit over, but seeing as how these covers haven’t even been broken in (the canvas stretches to the shape of the seat) the initial fit is pretty good.
The bottom is a bit saggy, but it looks like it’ll wear in just fine. The semi-bucket shape of my aftermarket seats doesn’t really allow for anything tigher.
Fit around the reclining adjustment is good, with just a little bit extra material flapping around.
Overall, the side of the seat looks fairly fitted.
We like the logo too. It’s modern and cool.
The shoulder supports are complexly shaped as I mentioned before, so it’s impressive to see how many panels Black Duck was able to put into such a small space to make it fit right.
Even the waist supports have multiple panels to ensure the cover contours properly.
The back of the seats include a large pocket that’ll be perfect for storing our iPad and a few HEMA maps. It’s a nice touch that most seat covers lack. The headrest cover is also nicely fitted and installed easier than others I’ve had the pleasure of putting on.
Since these seat covers still need to be broken in to really find out if they’re worth their salt (we suspect they will be) you’ll have to check out an upcoming issue of Unsealed 4X4 for the final word! Until then, we’re pretty happy!
Editor’s Note:
Black Duck have contacted us and informed us that the pattern for our Paradrive seats has been discontinued due to fitting issues which have been undiscovered until now. They said that they haven’t sold many of these covers in the last five years so the fitting issue hasn’t come to light. We have included some other pictures of their products to illustrate the correct fit. Personally, I thought they fit quite well! But it’s just not up to their exacting standards, that’s what I call quality!
Here’s a few more shots of their products fitted properly!
