Ford Ranger tops 4×4 sales in September

Toyota HiLux might have been the best-selling new vehicle in September but Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi Triton were the best-selling 4x4s.

The Australian new vehicle sales market continued its 18th month in decline in September with sales down 6.9% compared to the same month in 2018. And while the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi Triton were the best-selling vehicles for the month, as far as 4×4 sales were concerned it was a different story.

Ford Ranger 4×4 variants took top billing beating out Mitsubishi Triton 4×4 and Toyota HiLux 4×4 variants by 67 and 218 sales respectively. Holden Colorado 4×4 finished in fourth spot with 1069 sales. Finishing the month well below the pack was the Mercedes-Benz X-Class 4×4 with 178 sales. But one of the headline grabbers for September was the staggering growth in sales of the Triton which is up 60% compared to the same time last year. Another good month could see the Triton take top spot – a sign of the economic times with buyers looking for bang for buck.
