STAFF CORNER: EV’S BAR GOES FOR A DRINK

By Evan Spence 2 Min Read

If you have seen the movie The Big Lebowski, there is a classic line in the film surrounding the lead character’s household rug which is stolen… “It really tied the room together.” Now, there was nothing wrong with the bullbar on my GQ, but it was the stock TJM item from 1989 and it was showing age in the looks department. Basically, it wasn’t tying the project together!

Roughly a year ago, I was planning on building a Suzuki Sierra project (which is still sitting in my shed) and the first thing we fitted was a bullbar from Aussie company Uneek 4X4. I liked the way it looked, I liked the features and I liked the fact it was made in Melbourne.

So when sifting through page after page of internet forums and websites looking for the right bullbar for the Patrol (which still doesn’t have a name… any suggestions?) I found what I was looking for. A Uneek 4X4 front bar once again.

The simple reason why I really like this bar is because it looks traditional enough to keep with the theme of the vehicle, yet with a modern twist. I like that there are three different designs available; and I liked the fact they shipped it directly to my work with one of the best tracking programs I have ever used.

It has LED parker lights and recovery points built into it – and the build quality is really second to none, as we quickly found out. And I’m rapt! A few days after installing the bar, we were off-roading shooting images for the major recovery feature in this issue… and, basically, we found out the GQ certainly isn’t a boat. They say the first scratch hurts the most, and I’d have to agree.
