If there’s one thing that makes a night around the campfire memorable, it’s finishing a great meal with a perfect dessert. The problem is, after all that four-wheel driving followed by a hearty meal, it seems impossible to get out of that comfy camp chair by the fire to go and cook up a storm. With this recipe you’ll be back in your camp chair in no time, only this time you’ll have a bowl of tasty scrumptiousness in your hand. With endless possibilities when it comes to combinations of breads, spreads and other fillings you can use, you’ll never be so excited about having stale bread. Don’t let them eat cake – feed those hungry campers bread-and-spread pudding, and wait for the satisfied murmurs of “sweet!”.

The great thing about this recipe is that the possibilities are almost endless. Be brave and experiment with new possibilities, this way you’ll never get tired of the recipe. Who knows, you may even find the ultimate combination!
A few of our favourites are raspberry jam and raisin toast, peach slices and white bread or crunchie peanut butter and honey. Then you could always add choc chips, nuts or even try choc honeycomb. Of course, if you want to get fancy, you could splurge with croissants, hot cross buns or brioche.
If you’ve got any leftover fruit like apples, pears, bananas, berries etc., you can cut these up and add them between the slices – and the best part is that you won’t feel as guilty going back for seconds!
