There’s a few words that will get anyone excited. Stylish. Nicely packaged. Swedish, but I’m not talking about the locals over in Sweden you gutter-minded freaks. I’m talking about the new revolutionary Thule Foothill rooftop tent.
Generally, when you think of a rooftop tent, you’re probably like me and immediately think about sacrificed roof space and big heavy metal framed boxes. Most traditional roof tops will take up an entire ute tub. Or if it’s a clam-shell style tent, that’s your entire roof gone! Thule have come to the party with the solution, and I love it.
The Thule Foothill is a lightweight and compact 2-person rooftop tent. It’s designed to save space on your roof so you can still fit additional swags, kayaks, bikes or luggage up on your roof rack. What this means is you can now have the luxury of a rooftop tent; with functional roof space next to it.
Let me hit you with some numbers, when folded it is just 61cm wide and sits just 24cm in height. At just 55kgs, this rooftop tent could be one of the lightest to hit the market in recent times. The only downside? The mattress… As you can imagine with such a small and compact rooftop tent, the mattress is limited. A 40mm high-density foam mattress with a washable cover is included but won’t win any comfort awards.

If you’re a sweaty sleeper after having one too many spicy sodas like me then don’t stress. The Foothill has ventilation for days. With a wide entry, huge panoramic rear window and twin skylights, you can have all the crossflow in the world.
Setup and pack-down is made extra simple with the internal telescopic poles ensuring that one-person operation is achievable. The fabric is a breathable water-resistant 600D polyester rip-stop material that will withstand even the harshest climates you’ll want to tackle.
When folded out, the tent measures 213cm long, 119cm wide and just over 100cm in room height. Meaning that, whilst cosy, there is plenty of room for two adults, including enough space to get changed comfortably.
One of the fantastic things about Thule is their innovation for future proofing their Foothill tent. With external points for things like lamps, storage and any other gear you can think of, you’ll be ready for anything. On top of the external goodness, you’re also met with internal storage pockets and an optional ‘Thule Tepui’ quilted liner for colder climates, the Foothill roof top is a versatile tent no matter how you look at it.
If you’re in the market for a sleek, sexy and comfortable roof top tent then the new Thule Foothill could be exactly what you need. The Swedish certainly get it right, and they’re twisting my arm with the Foothill, this could very well be my next mod!
