The teardrop camper, historical homage with a modern twist

Have a hankering for the retro cool of a teardrop camper but need modern capability and comforts? The BRS Sherpa might be just what you need

Teardrop campers have been a staple in caravan and trailer collections for years. A whole lot of years to be exact. Originally introduced to the market in the 1930s and 40s as the Honeymoon House trailer, the design quickly rocketed to popularity as it was lightweight, sleek and packaged perfectly for travellers.

Whilst traditional smoothed-out teardrop campers are a thing of the past. The team at BRS Offroad are stoking the coals and bringing the vision back to life with their revised and staunch-looking ‘Sherpa’ camper.

The BRS Sherpa is one hell of a camper, there’s no beating around the bush. I’ve never traditionally been a camper trailer fan, but this little beauty might just have my arm twisted. Hear me out…

Bold styling. Technologically advanced. Lightweight. Strong enough to tackle whatever you put it through and recent winner of ‘Camper Trailer of the Year’. One of the biggest things us four-wheel drivers look for when in the market for a camper is something that is as tough as our tow-rig. A true off-road camper can’t be a hindrance. And trust me when I say you won’t have to worry for one second about the BRS Sherpa not following you down a track. This thing is ready for battle.

With a lightweight aluminium body sitting upon one of the strongest central-beam style chassis’ we’ve seen, you know this camper can go anywhere. With independent Cruise master suspension and shocks, comfort and capable suspension articulation are available in spades. The 17” alloy wheels are wrapped in a seemingly favoured BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tyre. They’ll provide adequate grip and ride both on and off-road too.

“This thing is ready for battle”

The living appointments in this teardrop inspired camper trailer are luxurious to say the least. To list a few of my favourite features, it’s equipped with dual Engel fridges that can be run as freezers. An elaborate Enerdrive lithium 12v system. Diesel hot water shower. AluCab roof top tent. Even a 200w solar panel mounted and ready for action. This is a truly capable, well fitted out, off-grid unit no matter if you’re chasing a weekend away or the start of your Aussie lap.

While the compact appearance of the teardrop design might have you thinking it’s cramped inside the main shell, you’d be wrong. There is a tonne of space for 2 or 3 people to sleep. Huge side-entry doors making access a dream. A TV mounted above you to relax when you’re off the beaten track. An incredible ability to get air flowing through the camper. And even inbuilt cushions on the back wall so you can comfortably sit up in bed. The judges from Camper Trailer Of The Year said it best, “innovation plus plus plus.”

With class leading ground clearance, an incredible approach and departure angle, stacks of 12v power outlets everywhere, class-leading craftsmanship and styling that will have you being the envy of all others at your campsite, the BRS Offroad Sherpa camper is a force to be reckoned with.
