If you need a rear diff lock in the 300 Series LandCruiser range, you will have to pony up for one of the top-of-the-line models – the GR Sport (which has front and rear diff locks). Why the base model GX doesn’t come fitted with diff locks standard still blows my mind.
Even to have them fitted as an optional extra from the factory would have been smart. Terrain Tamer saw this gap and has since announced the release of the rear ELocker Kit to suit the new 300 Series LandCruiser.
What’s the story?
Terrain Tamer’s ELocker Kit to suit the rear differential of the 300 Series LandCruiser. It has been developed specifically to facilitate the correct fitment of the Australian-made Harrop Eaton Elocker. This is a welcome addition to anyone with a 300 Series LandCruiser, to improve the already capable off-road ability of the vehicle.
Inside the kit, you will find all the bearings and gaskets you’ll need for a successful diff lock installation. As well as the actual Harrop Eaton electromagnetic locking differential
What’s an ELocker?
ELockers are manually engaged by the driver of the vehicle, with the simple press of a button. If you need extra traction to drive a challenging object, push the button and the rear differential is now locked. When you have successfully conquered whatever was in your way, turn the locker off and you’re good to find the next challenge. Best of all, there are no airlines or compressors required in the installation process. This saves you time and money, and who doesn’t want more of both of those things?
How much does it cost from Terrain Tamer?
Pricing isn’t available on-line, so I called my local Terrain Tamer store in Marsden Park, Sydney NSW. Over the phone, I was quoted $1871 for the diff locker itself, and $164.56 for the required bearings and gaskets. This price doesn’t include fitting naturally, but the supply cost is pretty darn reasonable if you ask me.
