Authorities have placed several flood warnings for QLD, and also have reminded all motorists once again to never attempt to drive through flood waters. Tin Can Bay Road at Moody Creek is closed due to long-term flooding, the road is closed to all traffic. Maryborough is also experiencing flash flooding, with many roads closed and delays expected if travelling through. In SEQ, wet season closures are in place for many popular 4WD destinations, including Cape Melville National Park, Errk Oykangand National Park, some areas of the Jardine River National Park and Lama Lama National Park.

I am planning to go to Cape York in August. By only travelling the development road. As my wife has this on her bucket list. Can we take our caravan and how far?
My wife and I did this trip with our 18′ off road van last year (2016) . Not as hard as people make out we had no issues with our van . Its not a drive in the park and the corragations can get to you but its worth it.
Alan
Hi Alan, What sort of ‘off road” van do you have, what time of year did your go and how long did the trip take? We have a 2010 Lotus Trooper with simplicity suspension, drive fairly conservatively and to the road conditions. Do you think we would get right to the Tip? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Yes you can Donald and all the way to the tip. Road condition are generally quite good on the PDR with more and more road being sealed all the time. Corrugations will be the biggest hurdle but if you drive to the conditions you’ll be fine.
Depending on the van type I’m guessing a normal on road type van the Laura or Cooktown would be the end of the road for the van but the rest of the trip can be done with a well maintained 4×4. The worst part of the road would be Coen to Archer river then from Bamaga turnoff to the Jardine, by then who knows. It would be best to ask when you get to Cooktown or Laura. Pm me if you come to Cooktown. Happy travels
Duck Creek Rd, Kerry QLD has been closed indefinitely due to extreme flood damage. Huge sections of track on the mountain are missing. Vast trees have fallen also.
18 months plus to be reopened, just was talking to a bloke that works on the Beaudesert council.
Your biggest challenge with an 18ft caravan is being able to go down the steep slippery slopes of the creeks and even worse to climb up out the very steep other side. This is a big risk to your rig and extraction is far from easy. Kedron may do it, but they are the professionals and they can fix their own vans. I would not risk more than an off-road camper trailer.
