That’s exactly why the MXGP of Australia has caught our attention.
After attracting more than 36,000 spectators during its Australian debut, the world’s premier motocross championship is returning to Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin from 18-20 September 2026, promising three days of world-class racing and family-friendly entertainment.
Three days of action
The event kicks off on Friday with the MX3 and MX85 State Challenge, where Australia’s emerging riders battle it out in a State of Origin-style competition.
Saturday raises the stakes as the international stars hit the track across the MXGP, MX2 and WMX categories before Sunday’s championship races bring the weekend to a dramatic conclusion.
One of the biggest drawcards is the final round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship, giving Australian fans the chance to watch the world’s best female motocross riders compete for a global title on local soil.
Darwin proving itself on the world stage
Following the success of last year’s event, organisers are confident Darwin has cemented its place on the international motocross calendar.
Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo said the Top End had earned its place among the world’s premier motocross destinations.
“Darwin has earned its place on the MXGP world calendar, not by accident, but because every element that makes a Grand Prix truly great comes together here.”
He also praised the Hidden Valley circuit, the Northern Territory Government’s support and the atmosphere created by Australian fans.
More than just racing
Even if you’re not a lifelong motocross fan, there’s plenty happening across the weekend.
Organisers are promising festival-style entertainment, family-friendly activities and premium hospitality options alongside the racing.
Ticket prices are also refreshingly accessible:
- Three-day Hot Pass: $150
- Single-day tickets: from $45
- Children aged 12 and under: free with a paying adult
- Paddock Pass upgrade: $30 for behind-the-scenes access
Premium options including the Skybox, Valley View Terrace and the Holeshot Hotel will also be available for fans wanting to upgrade their race weekend.
Worth adding to your adventure calendar?
If you’ve already got a trip planned through the Northern Territory this September (or you’ve been looking for an excuse to point the bonnet north), the MXGP of Australia could be well worth timing your travels around.
Sure, it’s bikes instead of 4WDs. But it’s still about getting dirty, celebrating off-road machines and spending a weekend surrounded by people who love adventure as much as we do.
