Four rigs worth a closer look at the Perth 4WD Show

Shed Life’s custom builds, Malcolm Douglas’ Troopy and the Wild Rigs Show & Shine. Here’s what to check out at the Perth 4WD Show.

A custom K Truck, two very different Shed Life builds and Malcolm Douglas’ restored Troopy. Here’s where to start your rig spotting at the Perth 4WD & Adventure Show.

There’s a particular danger in looking at someone else’s custom 4WD. You start with “that’s a clever idea” and finish mentally spending next year’s holiday budget on your own build.

If that sounds familiar, allow some wandering time at the Perth 4WD & Adventure Show. Alongside the accessories and gear stands, this year’s line-up includes custom builds, a piece of Australian touring history and a Show & Shine that changes categories each day.

The show runs at McCallum Park from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November 2026, from 9am to 5pm daily. Here are the rigs we’d put on the list.

Shed Life’s K Truck

The Shed Life K Truck combines classic Japanese styling with a custom adventure build. It’s an intriguing alternative to the usual touring wagon or dual-cab, and one to seek out if you enjoy seeing someone take a different approach.

TJ’s LandCruiser

For Cruiser fans, TJ’s LandCruiser brings familiar Toyota foundations and Shed Life’s custom touches. Put it on your list if your idea of a good show involves slowly circling a vehicle while discussing what you’d do to your own.

Shed Life’s RAM 2500

Then there’s the Shed Life RAM 2500, taking things in a considerably bigger direction. The full-size build adds a hauling and towing focus to the line-up, giving visitors another very different starting point for an adventure vehicle. Together, these three Shed Life rigs should provide plenty of reasons to stop and look.

Malcolm Douglas’ restored Troopy

Some vehicles draw a crowd because of the modifications. This one comes with a story.

Malcolm Douglas’ 2001 Troopy has undergone an extensive restoration involving the Douglas family, the 4WD Adventure Show team and Gary and the crew at Rust Worx. The project began in 2022, bringing the vehicle from Broome to Perth for the work.

It was a substantial job, including panel and seal replacement, roof removal for repairs and fresh paint. Under the bonnet remains the Toyota 1HD-FTE engine fitted when Malcolm bought it new, while the restoration also brought updated accessories.

For anyone who grew up watching Malcolm’s adventures, it’s a chance to see a vehicle connected to the films that helped spark their own interest in getting out bush.

You’ll find the Troopy beside the Engel Bush Camp Stage.

Pick your day for the Wild Rigs Show & Shine

The featured builds aren’t the only reason to bring your camera. The Wild Rigs Show & Shine has a different category across each of the three show days:

DayCategoryWhat to expect
Friday 6 NovemberClassicsOlder rigs and the vehicles that helped shape the scene
Saturday 7 NovemberWild RigsHeavily customised 4WD builds
Sunday 8 NovemberOverlandersVehicles set up for touring and adventure

If you’re chasing ideas for your own touring setup, Sunday is worth pencilling in. For the more heavily modified builds, make it Saturday. And if an old-school 4WD will stop you mid-conversation, Friday has your name on it.

Make a day of it

Once you’ve finished inspecting everyone else’s handiwork, there’s plenty more to fill the day, including bush mechanics sessions, driving and recovery demonstrations, gear stands and the SaltWorx Fishing and Boating Zone.

Our Perth 4WD & Adventure Show guide covers more of what’s on, so you can work a few other stops around the rigs.

Before heading in, sort out your parking. Organisers advise there is no parking at the show, with free parking and shuttle services available from Belmont Park Racecourse and Sir James Mitchell Reserve. A shuttle also services Burswood train station.
