Adventure Cinema: Five on Friday - January 24

With the week grinding to a tediously slow halt, we’ve picked five videos to make your Friday go just that little bit faster. Now, put on your headphones and look serious…like you would if you were using Excel. That way the boss will think you’re working. You’re welcome.

We know how much you legends love our Adventure Cinema page, heck, it’s one of the most popular sections in the magazine – and one of the most fun to put together too. I mean, who wouldn’t love sitting around all day and watching cool, funny, clever videos on YouTube? In a cunning move that the boss clearly didn’t think through, we’ve managed to swing it that we produce an Adventure Cinema, not just once a month, but four times a month.

As we do in the magazine, we’ll rummage around in YouTube for videos we reckon you’ll like. Here’s this week’s lot.

1. Everything you need to know about the Land Rover Discovery…other than they can be expensive to repair

The guys at Donut Media have sat down and compiled a complete history of the Land Rover Discovery. This video has everything you could want, Land Rovers off-road, terrible British accents, as well as an awful ‘Disco’ joke. The perfect video to get you through a Friday afternoon…or put you to sleep if you’re not at all interested in Discos.

2. Duramax on Horse and Buggy wheels

One of our new favourite YouTube channels is WhistlinDiesel and they regularly come up with new and wacky ways to distort and eventually destroy perfectly good American pickups, to say we’re jealous is an understatement. In this video, they see how well a Pickup would work with horse and buggy wheels. Think of the sort of stuff you and your mates talked about doing to 4X4s when you were younger, and you can bet that WhistlinDiesel has either done it already, or is planning on doing it soon.

3. Land Rover Defender vs Suzuki Jimny: Off-Road Test

This video has everything you could want, questionable facial hair, overenthusiastic presenters, and a Suzuki Jimny. Okay, they call it an off-road test but let’s not forget that off-roading in the UK is essentially just driving along a country lane with a few puddles in it. But the water crossing at the end, well, that ain’t for the faint hearted…and neither is the grown man in his underderps wading into a river. You’ll get a giggle.

4. Why you should buy a budget 4X4

While some of the “off-roading” may seem a bit weak, it shouldn’t put you off. This video does raise a good point, why have a $50,000 vehicle that you’re constantly worrying about damaging, when you could get a much cheaper vehicle that you’ll be happy to bounce around in. The bog hole video is hilarious…anyone fancy a Pajero iO?
