The driving light has been reinvented. The ARB Intensity IQ is not simply a facelift of the original Intensity model, it’s a whole new animal. ARB says the Intensity IQ model “has been developed from the ground up, with performance front of mind. Whilst delivering a design that complements modern vehicle barwork.” On first glance, you can tell these are not your average driving lights, and that’s before you even power them up.
Choose the exact beam pattern
In the Intensity IQ, ARB has created a driving light like no other. The appearance alone is like nothing we’ve seen before, but the functionality is even more impressive. ARB’s unique 4-optic design means there are almost an unlimited choice of beam patterns available. Yes, you read that righ. You can choose the exact beam pattern you need to match any conditions you may encounter. Welcome to the future!
Features
Essentially, each light consists of a conventional parabolic reflector section at the bottom, which illuminates the midrange area. Positioned immediately above this is what looks similar to a regular lightbar in many ways. But it has a specifically designed lens to maximise light spread for foreground visibility.
The hero portion of the light is the top half, where you find the Super Spot and Spot optic. This section is based on free-form reflector technology, utilising nine varied types of Cree LEDs. It produces an even spot beam for extended distance illumination beyond 1200m.
The whole package is wrapped in a near-indestructible polycarbonate lens and die cast aluminium body, you can be sure these laser beams are durable. There’s also a very deliberate focus on cooling throughout the aluminium sections, including specially designed mounting brackets that add cooling area, as well as air-flow ducts. ARB has ensured that these lights will perform consistently under any conditions.
Functionality
Enough about the design, let’s talk about functionality. The Intensity IQ lights are supplied with a matching wiring harness, which incorporates a light controller in place of a conventional switch or button. This is preloaded with eight pre-set configurations that can be cycled through at the push of a button. ARB has also developed the ARB Intensity IQ app to accompany the lights. This is where you will find the functionality that allows you to select from tens of thousands of beam combinations. These lights really are as simple, or as customisable as you desire. Of course, they’re also LINX compatible for those running that system.
While they’re undoubtedly a spectacular feat of engineering taking the form of a driving light, they come at a price. The recommended retail is $2,369, which includes two lights, a wiring harness with control module, and mounting brackets with security bolts and tools. If you’re after the best of the best, you know where to look.
Another expensive gimmick from Toyotas-R-Us. I’m sure it will sell like hotcakes to the inner city crowd looking for bragging rights in their office cubicle.
Couldn’t agree more
Lol…it’s a solid product. Why be upset? Is it a price issue? Or do you drive a patrol?
