Sales restart after investigation

Suzuki Australia has officially lifted the temporary sales hold on the Jimny XL, with deliveries to customers beginning immediately. Suzuki Motor Corporation pulled the five-door Jimny from showrooms at the end of July to investigate a technical concern..

Refunds offered during the pause

With no resolution timeframe, Suzuki told its dealers to offer full deposit refunds to waiting customers. Suzuki framed the move as a way to protect customer experience and uphold its century-long reputation for reliability.

No issues found

The investigation has now wrapped up, and Suzuki Motor Corporation has confirmed the Jimny XL meets all safety, quality, performance and compliance standards. Suzuki has cleared stock at ports and yards for release, and dealers can now resume retail sales.

Suzuki responds to fans

Michael Pachota, Suzuki Australia’s General Manager for Automobiles, said the decision to pause sales was the right move. “Our customers’ trust in Suzuki is built on the promise that quality and safety always come first. While this pause was undoubtedly disruptive, it was absolutely the right step to ensure we deliver on this promise. With sales now resuming, we’re excited to continue delivering one of the most loved vehicles in our line-up for Australian drivers.”

What it means for buyers

The stop-sale caused frustration among buyers eager for the larger five-door Jimny, with many forced to decide between refunds or waiting it out. With sales back on, expect demand to surge quickly and deliveries to start right away.

Jimny XL timeline

  • 5 December 2023 – Jimny XL (five-door Jimny) officially announced for Australia.
  • Early 2024 – First shipments and customer deliveries begin.
  • End of July 2025 – Suzuki Australia halts Jimny XL sales under a stop-delivery order while Suzuki Motor Corporation investigates a technical concern.
  • Early August 2025 – Dealers instructed to cancel orders and refund deposits due to no resolution timeframe.
  • 27 August 2025 – Investigation concludes. Suzuki confirms no issues with safety, quality, performance, or compliance. Sales and deliveries officially resume immediately.

What buyers should do now

  • Contact your dealer – If you had a Jimny XL order cancelled or refunded, reach out to your dealer to confirm if stock is available and to reinstate your order.
  • Check stock quickly – Dealers are releasing vehicles now, so move fast before demand overtakes supply. The earlier you act, the better your chances of securing one.
  • Expect delivery delays – While sales have resumed, the backlog of buyers means some orders will still face extended wait times.
  • Confirm your position in the queue – If you chose to stay on the list rather than take a refund, confirm with your dealer that your spot has carried over into the new allocation.
  • Watch for updates – Suzuki may provide further guidance to customers if supply chains tighten or additional allocations arrive.

Why the Jimny XL matters

The Jimny has always punched above its weight as a compact, affordable, go-anywhere 4X4. The arrival of the Jimny XL was the answer to one of the biggest requests from Aussie buyers: more space and practicality without losing the cult off-road charm. With its extra doors and longer wheelbase, the XL makes the Jimny more usable for families, tourers and anyone who found the three-door a bit too tight.

It keeps the ladder-frame chassis, low-range transfer case and that unmistakable boxy silhouette that made the Jimny a global icon. That combination of classic 4X4 DNA and added everyday usability is exactly why demand spiked from the moment Suzuki announced the model for Australia in late 2023.
