If you own a JB74, the massive new range of Superior Engineering Suzuki Jimny upgrades is the protection and suspension package you have been waiting for. The Suzuki Jimny has been a runaway success since launching in 2018. It is arguably the most capable 4X4 straight out of the box for the money. However, anyone who has poked their head underneath one knows there are areas that need attention before tackling serious tracks.

The factory radius arm mounts hang low, the tie rods are thin, and the transfer case is vulnerable to rock strikes. Consequently, Superior Engineering has dropped a comprehensive range of components to address these exact weak points. These aren’t just generic bolt-ons; Superior manufactures them in Queensland specifically for Australian conditions.

Here is a closer look at the new Superior Engineering Suzuki Jimny gear available now.

Radius arm mount guards

If you’ve driven a Jimny off-road, you know the radius arm chassis mounts act like ploughs. Furthermore, they are the lowest point of the chassis mid-section and utilize relatively thin steel. Superior has released high-grade guards that bolt over the factory mounts. This prevents them from folding in on themselves when you inevitably drag them over a rock step. Superior Engineering constructs these from 304-grade stainless steel using CNC laser cutting and folding.

Superior Engineering Suzuki Jimny steering upgrades

The factory steering links on a solid-axle Suzuki are famously bendy. Additionally, upgrading to larger tyres places even more stress on these hollow tubes. Superior Engineering has released both a Heavy Duty Tie Rod and Drag Link manufactured from solid 1020-grade steel bar. They feature Superior’s patented ITS Seal Technology to prevent moisture ingress into the threads. Moreover, the manufacturer finishes them in an SA5 zinc coating for long-term corrosion resistance. If you are lifting your Jimny, these adjustable links are essential for recentring your steering wheel.

Adjustable panhard rods

When you lift a live-axle vehicle, the diffs shift off-centre. To correct this geometry, you need adjustable panhard rods. The new Superior Engineering Suzuki Jimny front and rear adjustable rods are machined from 32mm OD 1020-grade solid steel bar. They feature CNC machined 1-1/4 UNF fine thread double lock nuts to ensure your alignment stays put even under heavy articulation. Like the steering gear, they use OE bushes for factory-like ride quality and are finished in that same durable SA5 zinc coating.

Performance shocks

If you are chasing better ride control on corrugations, the new Monotube IFP 2.0 shocks are a massive step up from factory. They feature an Internal Floating Piston (IFP) design which separates the oil and gas. As a result, this virtually eliminates shock fade on long, rough tracks. Built with a 20mm shaft and a 46mm piston, they are fully rebuildable and serviceable. This means you buy them once, not every 40,000km. They are available in lengths to suit 2-inch lifts.

Underbody protection

To complement the radius arm guards, Superior has also released a Transfer Case Guard and a Radiator Guard. The transfer case guard is particularly important on the Jimny because the actuator wiring is quite exposed. Superior fabricates these from laser-cut 2mm 304-grade stainless steel. Therefore, it takes the impact so your driveline doesn’t have to. The radiator guard steps it up to heavy-duty 3mm 304 stainless steel, which uses factory mounting points without compromising airflow.

Shock guards

The low-hanging rear shock mounts are another magnet for rocks. The new Shock Guards from the Superior Engineering Suzuki Jimny range bolt onto the rear axle to shield the lower shock mount bolt and the shock body itself from impact damage. They manufacture these from 3mm 304-grade stainless steel. As a result, they won’t rust out after the first beach run like cheaper mild steel alternatives.

Driveshaft clearance solutions

One often overlooked issue when lifting a Jimny is the front driveshaft contacting the factory crossmember at full suspension droop. Superior has solved this with a Billet Series Crossmember Drop Kit. CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminium alloy, these spacers lower the factory crossmember to provide the necessary clearance for the driveshaft without adding significant weight. It’s a critical modification if you plan on using the full travel of your new suspension.

Compliance and Accessories

Lifting a Jimny with LED headlights confuses the auto-levelling sensor, pointing your lights at the trees (or blinding oncoming traffic). Superior has released a Headlight Adjuster Bracket to correct the sensor angle for 2-4 inch lifts. Finally, for those running larger tyres or wider offsets, the new Rear Mudflap Brackets provide a solid mounting point for legal mudflaps.
