Oztent takes camping to new heights with the new Apex Roof Top Tent series

Between rogue pegs, uneven ground, and that one rock that always ends up under your spine, traditional camping has its fair share of challenges. Most of you already know the benefits of using a roof top tent, so I won’t bore you with that discussion here. However, what is interesting is that Oztent has finally entered the roof top tent scene with what appears to be a fairly upmarket offering.
Oztent’s new range of roof top tents includes two models: the Apex RT-C-1400 and the Apex RT-P-1600. Both are packed with features that make traditional tents and older roof top tents look like glorified potato sacks. We’re talking built-in lighting with motion detectors, ventilation, a high-tech Apex Command Centre, and a luxury interior that makes you wonder if you accidentally booked a glamping trip instead.
Let’s look into this a little further, shall we?
Cost: $4,999 (currently available for pre-order)
The Oztent Apex RT-C-1400 roof top tent is the smaller of the two. This clamshell-style roof top is all about making life easy, and as expected from a clam-shell, features gas-assisted struts for effortless setup and a honeycomb aluminium top shell that’s tough enough to handle whatever Aussie adventures you throw at it.
Cost: $5,999 (currently available for pre-order)
If you like a bit more head space up both ends of your roof top tent, the Oztent Apex RT-P-1600 is the go. This pop-up-style tent gives you all the bells and whistles of the RT-C-1400 but with a larger sleeping area (queen-sized) and some extra creature comforts.
We haven’t got our hands on these all new Oztent roof top tents yet to do a proper review, but Oztent are known for making quality and innovative tents. This series appears to be built tough, packed with smart features, and designed to make roof top tent camping more luxe.
If you’re after a compact and quick setup, the clamshell Apex RT-C-1400 seems to be your best bet. But if you want more space and a bigger bed, the Apex RT-P-1600 seems worth the upgrade at this price point, which, although is a bit rough on the wallet compared to other brands, is not unexpected considering all the extra features you’re getting and the peace of mind that comes with the brand. Either way, you’re getting a rooftop tent that turns your 4WD into a rolling adventure base, and appears to be a cut above most.
