ROH gives the Ranger Super Duty the Assault treatment

ROH Assault wheels now suit the Ford Ranger Super Duty, with an 8x170 stud pattern, 1750kg load rating, two offsets and two finishes.

Fordโ€™s Ranger Super Duty has given buyers plenty to talk about and the aftermarket is getting stuck in too. ROH has released its Assault wheel in a new eight-stud fitment for the heavy-duty Ranger, bringing the familiar design to a platform built to carry and tow some serious weight.

The new wheels use an 8×170 stud pattern and carry a hefty 1750kg load rating per wheel. Theyโ€™re also available for compatible Ford F250s and F350s.

If youโ€™re planning a Ranger Super Duty workhorse or touring build, thereโ€™s now another option on the wheel shortlist.

Eight studs and a bigger job to do

With a 4500kg GVM and 8000kg GCM, the Ranger Super Duty asks a fair bit of the components underneath it. Its eight-stud hubs also mean you canโ€™t simply transfer your favourite regular Ranger wheels across.

According to ROHโ€™s Head of Product Development, Mark Reina, Fordโ€™s use of F250 and F350 Super Duty hubs meant the new Ranger needed a suitably heavy-duty wheel and hub combination. For ROH, adapting the Assault to that application involved more than adding a different set of bolt holes.

The engineering you donโ€™t see

ROH says developing the new fitment required purpose-built test plates because its existing testing equipment couldnโ€™t accommodate the application.

The company also engineered wheel nuts specifically for the job, designed to handle the applicationโ€™s 200Nm tightening torque. Then there was the challenge of achieving a 1750kg load rating with a die-cast wheel.

Those details might not grab your attention in the same way as a fresh set of wheels bolted to a new rig, but theyโ€™re a big part of the development work behind this release. That wheel rating doesnโ€™t increase the vehicleโ€™s carrying capacity, of course. Your usual vehicle, axle and tyre limits still apply.

Two offsets, two finishes

The new 8×170 Assault comes exclusively in an 18×9-inch size, with two offset options.

ROH describes the +40 offset as providing a flush fit with the Ranger Super Dutyโ€™s factory guards. The +20 option positions the wheels further out for a wider stance or builds running wider aftermarket flares. Which one suits your setup will depend on your vehicle, tyre choice and guards, so itโ€™s worth talking through the combination with your ROH dealer before ordering.

There are two finishes to choose from: Matte Black and Graphite Centre Black Lip. Both retain the Assaultโ€™s rally-inspired styling and imitation beadlock lip.
