Could the Unidan Discovery X be the ultimate world expedition vehicle? Well, combine impressive off-road performance with supreme creature comforts, off-the-grid capability and enough space to pack a BMW dual-purpose adventure bike in the back and it’s got to be damn close.
The Unidan Discovery X is the main feature vehicle in Unsealed 4X4’s sister publication RV Daily, and it’s essentially a home-away-from-home built on the back of an ultra-capable Mercedes-Benz Zetros truck, designed to explore the most remote places on earth.
The M-B Zetros is a military-spec truck powered by a 7.2-litre diesel engine mated to a nine-speed auto with full-time four-wheel drive. The diesel donk makes a claimed 243kW of power and… wait for it… 1300Nm of torque. While it only nudges 90km/h on the blacktop, that’s plenty of grunt to keep the Zetros’ 46-inch tyres turning and churning when the ground gets rough.
The Aussie-made Discovery X body is made of 59mm-thick composite panels for optimum strength and insulation, while the windows are double-glazed items and the plumbing is internal to prevent freezing in extreme environments.
And check out that awesome kitchen! It has a huge stainless-steel food-prep area, induction stove, oven and 155L fridge/freezer, with another 50L drawer freezer located under the bed.
Of course, there’s a fully enclosed bathroom, too, with composting toilet, drop-down sink and shower, and if the weather is good there’s an outside shower as well… and a washing machine.
Oh, and then there’s the garage out the back, which is big enough to house a full-size dual-purpose adventure bike, which can be loaded and unload using the included crane.
