More than 100,000 MQ and MR Mitsubishi Tritons are being recalled over fears the genuine accessory towbar wiring harness could catch fire.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has announced an immediate recall on 102,616 Tritons (MQ and MR) with a genuine accessory towbar wiring harness. According to the car maker, “Due to incorrect installation, the genuine accessory towbar wiring harness (where fitted) may allow liquids to contact the electrical circuits. This may cause the harness and its surrounds to overheat, burn or catch fire”.

First thing to do is, don’t panic. You can download the VIN list to check if your vehicle is affected. Mitsubishi has said it is contacting owners advising them to “present their vehicle to their preferred dealer to have the vehicle rectified, free of charge”.
