It looks like Mitsubishi finally redesigned the Triton

By Jessica Palmer 3 Min Read

With its first full redesign in about nine years, the all-new Triton concept will be revealed at the 44th Bangkok International Motor Show this year. The Mitsubishi XRT Triton will be the sixth generation of the brand’s midsize pickup truck and, after its launch, will be released into the ASEAN region, Oceania and other global markets in 2023/2024.

We don’t have any details on the guts of the Triton concept vehicle yet. But it certainly has a more aggressive stance than previous models, with a fierce expression upfront and a robust hood that continues to the side with bold, horizontally-themed styling.

The Triton XRT concept is fitted with front and rear over fenders as well as mud-terrain tyres. Of interest is the camouflage design on the body. Mitsubishi says it’s inspired by lava rocks packed with condensed energy and that the sides feature a graphic of the 10-parallel line Ralliart brand icon that expresses Mitsubishi Motors’ passion for driving.

Will it be a second straight victory at the 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally?

Team Mitsubishi Ralliart, which receives technical support from Mitsubishi Motors, plans to compete in the 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally with a prototype cross-country model of the all-new Triton concept. Hopefully, for a second straight victory! This year, the mid-August competition covers a gruelling course of over 2,000 kilometres over Thailand and into neighbouring Laos.

Two-time Dakar Rally champion driver in 2002 and 2003, Hiroshi Masuoka, will remain as team director while Mitsubishi Motors engineers will perform pre-testing and accompany the team at the rally for support. Expertise gained from rallies is used in the development of Mitsubishi’s production vehicles as it seeks to create vehicles that deliver safe, comfortable driving in any road or weather conditions.

“The all-new Triton is going through final touch-up in preparation for its release, as we have performed rigorous endurance tests around the world while also incorporating the know-how gained from rally activities,” said Takao Kato, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors. “With the new vehicle launches as the centrepiece, we will continue our drive toward further growth.”
