So the secret is out, the reason Mr Pat In The Hat Callinan has been wearing his trademark Akubra for so long, is not for sun protection, or inner-city street cred … it’s to hide his redneck heritage. That’s right, Pat has a delicious (and rather well-kept) mullet that flows from ear-to-arse.
“Yep, the secret is out. I might be Mr 4X4, but I’m also Mr party at the Back, Business at the Front.” It doesn’t end there, however – the mullet isn’t just a stylish talking point, there’s a practical purpose for it too.
“I was at schoolies a few years back, and some of me bros decided we should get Southern Cross tats on our necks. The mullet does a brilliant job of hiding the shady outlines.”
Details emerged when Pat was spotted swimming in a dam out the back of Mudgee, reportedly poaching yabbies for a new cookbook recipe. Unsealed 4X4 photographers were quick to the scene, snapping these undisputable images as he hid in a nearby shed. We were surprised to see he’d taken off the trademark blue shirt as well, revealing more than one tattoo.
