LUKE’S LANDCRUISER
Luke is a regular visitor to the Kimberly, and loves to explore it with both of his rigs – one being a Robinson R44 Raven 1 Helicopter, the other being a well modified 2013 GXL 79 Series LandCruiser. Luke’s job is flying a helicopter in the Kimberly, which “… takes me to places even the ’Cruiser can’t get.” Luke’s favourite accessories on the ’Cruiser include the Tru-Blu Custom Fabrication canopy, a 5-inch lift and BF Goodrich 285R16 mud terrain tyres. Other practical accessories include LED lights all around, a Rhino Rack holding recovery tracks, an awning, a UHF radio and a winch. The Tru-Blu canopy appears to be well set up; however Luke tells us that he is still working on finishing it off inside but ‘will never really finish’. During the summer, Luke enjoys flying to Tasmania to check out some of the tracks down there. Congratulations to Luke who is this Issue’s Readers’ Rigs winner.
CHRIS’S FORD EVEREST
This well accessorised rig is a 2016 Ford Everest Trend. Chris has turned this into a very respectable tourer using a variety of products such as the ARB barwork, Ironman suspension, 33-inch Cooper tyres, bash plates, rated recovery points and an awning. Storage is taken care of by a Rhino Rack, and a drawer system with a built-in dual-battery setup. Lighting is supplied by a set of LED spotties and a roof-mounted light bar. Interior accessories include a UHF radio and aftermarket heated seats. Chris tells us that he continues to add more accessories to the Everest every month, and currently has a front diff lock on order. PETER AND JOY’S TROOP CARRIER
Here we can see Peter and Joy’s 2014 Troopy on the Yeagarup Dunes in WA. This vehicle has many modifications (mostly purchased from ARB) such as the barwork, recovery points, winch, Old Man Emu GVM upgrade, lighting, Kaymar rear bar and Redarc battery management system. Other useful touring accessories include a drawer system, water and fuel tanks, auxiliary battery and an Engel fridge. When not towing their Red Track camper, Peter and Joy are accommodated in their MadCamp electric rooftop tent which is bolted to a Rhino Rack alongside a Foxwing awning. Inside the Troop Carrier is an MSA canvas seat cover, GME UHF, power sockets and a Milford cargo barrier. To ensure the longevity of this vehicle, Peter and Joy have installed a Six Star Solutions electronic rust prevention device. Performance accessories include a DP chip and Safari Snorkel. Cooper S/T Maxx tyres on CSA Mullins Jackal rims connect this vehicle to the ground. All of these modifications have helped make one very capable tourer that is surely the envy of the neighbourhood. Peter says that when you want to buy new accessories, “It certainly helps to have a wife who also loves 4WDing!”
NICK’S LANDCRUISER
This 105 Series LandCruiser has had many modifications, all of which have helped turn it into a very capable tourer. The main modification would be the engine conversion from the original 1HZ to a 1HD-FTE. Accessories which make this rig Nick’s dream tourer include front and rear lockers and 285/75/16 BF Goodrich mud terrain tyres. Suspension consists of Dobinson 2-inch load-rated coils with twin-tube shocks. Other additions to this vehicle include a UHF radio, LED lights, a roof rack with awning, rated recovery points, a winch, a snorkel and ARB barwork. Nick tells us that he crossed the Simpson Desert with this vehicle when he was 18, “… and the modifications still haven’t stopped.” As seen in the photos, Nick isn’t afraid to get his vehicle dirty out on the tracks. Well done Nick, this ’Cruiser looks great.
