Unsealed 4X4 – Readers’ Rigs

RAY’S PAJERO

Living in Weipa and throwing a 4X4 in the League of Lemons every year, Ray usually ends up with the previous year’s entry as a daily for a little while – until it gives up the ghost or goes to a better home. Not the case with the affectionately named ‘Party Paj’. Ray’s kept this one, thrown 35s under it without needing to take an angle grinder to it, and kept driving the old bus. “But you need diesel to do The Cape!” we hear you mutter? Not even half right. The Party Paj is a 3.5L V6 petrol, that lives and breathes The Cape, and does runs up the Telly every other weekend – water halfway up the windscreen and all! When you get up that way, make sure you keep an eye out for it. And say g’day to Raymond and the Party Paj!

 

DARRYL’S AMAROK

Darryl’s Amarok (more affectionately known as Rok-Zilla) began life as a 2015 TDI 2.0L Amarok. From there it’s had a full remap done, 2.5-inch straight-through exhaust, 33-inch muddies, Raptor tub liner; as well as upgraded LED headlights. He’s thrown a Rhino bullbar and bash plates on it, a Carbon winch up the front, a 42-inch curved LED light bar up top, as well as a 28-inch LED light bar hidden behind the grille. Lift-wise there’s a Lovells 2-inch lift in the front and some 2-inch blocks in the rear (maintaining the factory heavy-duty leaf setup). Oh, and there’s also the fully-custom repurposed sand flag… which kinda dings our bell!

 

BARBARA’S ISUZU TRUCK

Looking to replace the old Mitsubishi 4X4 Canter, Barbara and the other half have just switched out to an Isuzu truck with slip-on. There’s still a storage cage and bike rack to be added up the front, but we reckon they’re well on their way to making a rather epic touring rig! Barbara tells us they’ve got a Gibb River Road, Kimberley, and Karijini National Park trip organised over June/July this year. We’d love to have another look at it when she’s done, and halfway down the Gibb River Road. Make sure you shoot us a couple of photos over from the Gibb, Barbara!
