The word is out, we can confirm when the 2024 Prado will be open for sale, as well as more details about the vehicle. While we still haven’t been able to lock down when our first drive of the 2024 Prado will happen, Toyota tells us they are confident you’ll be able to order the hotly anticipated new-generation Prado very soon.
What’s the story?
We’ve already reported on how much the 2024 Toyota Prado will cost, as well as the 2024 Toyota Prado specs available. Now, we can confirm that Toyota will be taking orders for the new Prado, from the end of August 2024. This is exciting news for motorists keen to put their name down for the new model, having just a few weeks left to wait to place their order.
It’s getting AdBlue
Toyota has confirmed the 2024 Prado will be fitted with AdBlue, in an attempt to further reduce tailpipe emissions. A 17.4L storage tank has been fitted. AdBlue is available at some service stations, and Toyota Dealerships mixes with exhaust gases as they enter the catalytic converter. This is then burnt at a high temperature which breaks down nitrous oxide emissions. It’s also something else to maintain, and reports from other vehicle owners with AdBlue suggests that you will consume more AdBlue when towing – just something to be aware of.
Altitude spec scores sway bar disconnect
Toyota is saying the Altitude specification 2024 Prado is the one to get if you want to seriously head off-road. It comes from the factory with a stabiliser disconnect mechanism (SDM). When engaged, a claimed 10% greater wheel articulation is available when compared to the previous generation Prado.
The SDM is controlled by a button found on the centre console, that can be manually selected when required. This will lock or unlock the front stabiliser bar to offer the most amount of suspension travel when off-road. It will also provide a more compliant ride on undulating terrain.
Altitude also gets diff lock
With the front end of the Altitude receiving more suspension travel, the rear end needed a party trick in Altitude spec too. Toyota has included a locking Torsen rear differential. This uses a solenoid actuator to lock the diff. Toyota says this arrangement reduces the time it takes for the rear locker to engage by a claimed 85% compare
What Toyota has to say
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley had this to say about the new-generation LandCruiser Prado.
“Australian buyers have always appreciated the rugged off-road performance of the LandCruiser Prado, which has proved to be the perfect overlanding platform for customers who want to travel all over the country without breaking the bank,” Mr Hanley said.
“The new Altitude grade enhances the performance of the LandCruiser Prado, allowing customers to venture further off-road than ever before.
“Meanwhile, introducing V-Active technology brings welcome on-road improvements, with smoother powertrain operation that may also help reduce fuel bills.”
Ad-blue = no remote touring. (Along with the absence of long range fuel tanks)
A very sad step backwards from the previous model Prado.
