Isuzu has rolled out the most comprehensive update yet to the MU-X, including a new range-topping flagship variant for 2025. Set to arrive in Australia in March, the updated model brings fresh styling, new tech, improved safety features, and refinements to suspension tuning.
The new MU-X X-TERRAIN, has been introduced, bringing a more aggressive, dark-themed design. It builds on the LS-T model with gloss black trims, 20-inch black alloy wheels, and exclusive “XT” badging. Inside, the cabin features a black and red theme (a nod to the D-MAX X-TERRAIN) with leather-accented upholstery, red ambient lighting, and a dedicated X-TERRAIN digital display theme.
The Isuzu MU-X 2025 X-TERRAIN is powered by the 3.0L turbo-diesel engine and comes with Isuzu’s full suite of off-road features, including Rough Terrain Mode, a rear diff lock, and 800mm of wading depth.
On the outside, the Isuzu MU-X 2025 adopts sharper styling. Isuzu says that their designers combined “Isuzu’s design language with the latest in contemporary geometric and aeronautical theme cues across the exterior” (who comes up with this stuff?). This translates to additional lower skirt trims and gloss black fender flares for the X-TERRAIN models and gloss black fender accents, sidesteps, roof rails and mirror caps for both the LS-T and X-TERRAIN.
In addition, the rear tailgate (hands-free for those with the LS-U, LS-T and X-TERRAIN) features a new integrated spoiler below the glass, with the rear bumper and taillights incorporating the same aeronautical-inspired themes (oh, now I get it). The rear taillights get a full LED upgrade, are wider and are tied together with a full-width trim piece. Isuzu has gone the opposite way to the new Mazda BT-50, and gone for smaller badging.
Inside, the updates include fresh upholstery options, a new steering wheel, and more soft-touch materials. A key change is the infotainment system upgrade: an 8-inch display on the LS-M and a 9-inch system on LS-U, LS-T, and X-TERRAIN models. All feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver display has also been updated, with a larger 7-inch screen replacing the previous 4.2-inch display in higher-spec variants.
The 2025 MU-X sees its most significant safety upgrade since the second-generation model launched in 2021. A new “Gen4” stereo camera system provides improved detection of pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles, expanding its field of view by 200%. New features include:
A digital reversing camera with improved low-light performance has also been added across the range, along with an updated tyre pressure monitoring system that displays real-time data and alerts drivers when tyres are reinflated to the correct pressure.
Ride and handling have been a key focus, with Isuzu revising the MU-X’s suspension to improve comfort and control, particularly when towing or carrying a full load. The new setup includes dampers with larger pistons and revised valving, aimed at delivering better stability on rough roads and corrugated surfaces.
The updated MU-X range will be available from March 1, 2025, with national drive-away pricing starting at $46,990 for the LS-M 1.9L 4×2 and topping out at $73,990 for the X-TERRAIN 3.0L 4×4. A full breakdown of pricing is below:
